The award-winning American bestselling author Todd Strasser alias Morton Rhue is one of the best-known authors of books for children and young people. The novelist and public speaker is particularly well known in Germany for his young adult novel The Wave (1981) which deals with a real-life school experiment in fascistoid thinking and followership. It sold millions of copies and has been used as school reading for decades. Other successful youth novels followed, such as Ich knall euch ab! (2000), Asphalt Tribe (2003), Bootcamp (2006), Ghetto Kidz (2008), Fame Junkies (2010) and Dschihad online (2016). His latest novel The Good War which has parallels to The Wave, was published in October 2024. The students at Ironville Middleton High School play a computer game based on the Second World War in an e-sports club. In it, the participants have to divide themselves into Allies and Axis powers and the game takes its course - former allies become bitter enemies. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the translator Angela Lück, who translated The Good War into German, for arranging the interview with Todd Strasser.
